Hisui was a graphic designer who drew flowers and birds using two very different styles. The first style was influenced by the dynamic, decorative designs of European Art Nouveau. Ten examples are included in this gallery (pictures 1-10). Click on a pictures to enlarge it. The second style was influenced by traditional European art in which the shapes and colors of objects were drawn more accurately. Five examples are included here (pictures 11-15). They were published in 1920-22 as part of a set entitled Hisui Hyakkafu (i.e., Album of One Hundred Flowers by Hisui). To see all the prints in this set click here.
